Contemporary design is about simplicity, clarity and the oneness of the space. Lines are crisp and the layout is often geometric. Just as important is the absence of frilly details and clutter. This style of garden is very therapeutic for people with hectic lifestyles. Yet well designed Contemporary Gardens are ideal for entertaining as well as perfect for relaxing and calming the agitated mind.
Because most
concepts are about the relationships of forms, surfaces and textures the materials MLD selects are natural and timeless like beautiful stones, slates and wood. Plants and hard-scape become ONE with the surrounding architecture. It’s easy to imagine sheared hedges, specimen trees and natural colours of mass planting. Water becomes a key element of my designs to create reflection, movement and soothing sound. When possible we love to provide rain-water harvesting solutions to honor sustainability.
Formal Garden Design is also one of our favorite styles of gardens because of its grand origins! It’s about balance, symmetry and focal point. An original sculpture or statue is usually the heart and spirit of the space. In other words, the focal point becomes the essence of Formal Garden Design. Neat rows of trees, linear paths and geometric structures are present and the whole design style is adaptable to gardens of any size, even small urban spaces. Repetition often brings an echo of rhythm in this grounding environment. This is perfect for creating a sense of belonging, harmony and a feeling of safety or security.
